Oman is the Middle East's best-kept secret - a country of extraordinary landscape diversity, genuine hospitality, and almost no mass tourism. This seven-day itinerary moves through three completely different environments: the ancient port city of Muscat, the vast red dunes of the Wahiba Sands, and the dramatic fjord-like coastline of the Musandam Peninsula above the Arabian Sea. In Muscat, a private guide leads a morning through the old city's souks, forts, and fish market, followed by a sunset dhow cruise in the harbour. The drive south through the Hajar Mountains delivers you to a luxury desert camp in the Wahiba Sands - a private camp with just six tents, positioned for unobstructed views of the dune sea. Camel trekking at dawn, a private stargazing session with an astronomer at night. The Wadi Shab gorge - one of Oman's most spectacular natural features - is explored by kayak, finishing with a swim through a hidden cave to a waterfall. Two nights at a clifftop property above the Arabian Sea complete the journey.
